More Mobile Food in Minneapolis

If you have been one of the many consumers who have enjoyed grabbing a tasty bite to eat at one of the several mobile food vendors, you may be in for an additional treat.  Support for these vendors is gaining ground at City Hall to permit an increase in the number of vendor licenses granted and to expand the geography into areas beyond Downtown, such as the U of M campus, Cedar-Riverside, Uptown, and Northeast.  Lisa Goodman, 7th ward council member, wrote an ordinance that passed last spring that allowed for street vending in Minneapolis for a trial period of one year.  She is now working on changes that would allow the vendors to park their food trucks on city streets, and (if you’ll forgive the pun) feed the parking meters.  Last year, 10 applications were approved for mobile food vendor licenses, and immediately the trucks began rolling into Downtown serving up tacos, mini donuts, turkey drumsticks, lobster rolls, and several ethnic food selections.  Stay tuned for more…
